Scholarships

There is a major shortage of nurses and doctors in Haiti, so OSMM works to provide scholarships for qualified students who are interested in entering the medical field.

Caeb Joseph

Caeb Joseph

Caleb Joseph,

We are saddened to report that as of March 2022, our attempts to restore contact with Caleb Joseph have failed. Caleb is the young man who was in his fifth year of medical school in Port-au-Prince Haiti. While our experience in Haiti has taught us to expect the unexpected our experience with God has taught us that miracles can happen. So even as our hearts are breaking we continue to pray for the day that Caleb may return.

Dianne Casanova Joseph

Dianne Casanova Joseph,

Dianne has graduated! She has completed the 4 year program at Wesleyan University of Haiti School of Nursing Sciences. She is currently working at an area hospital while waiting to take the required government exam. Upon completion she will have full certification.

We have contact with Janice Contron of the Haiti School of Nursing Sciences. We are planning to sponsor another nursing student now that classes have resumed following the Covid pandemic.

Dr. Frantzy

Dr. Frantzy

Dr. Frantzy Dieudonne,

Dr. Frantzy attended Universitie d’ Notre Dame School of Medicine in Port au Prince and graduated in 2016 and is now a pediatrician. OSMM came along side and sponsored Frantzy for the final 1 1/2 years of the pediatric residency program.

Dr. Frantzy wants to attain a Masters degree in public health. This will enable him to perform in a large variety of specifications. Public health is very important to Dr. Franzy and he has applied and been accepted at university in Montreal Canada. He is preparing to start classes in the fall of 2022.

OSMM will provide financial assistance for the one year program. During Dr. Frantzy‘s absence Dr. Frantzy and Eshter will hire a nurse to continue a medical presence at Bread of Life.

Our Clinic Trips

Visit Haiti and see for yourself...

Join a Mission Team. While being a Christian is not a requirement, those joining a team must be supportive of our goals and commitments. OSMM is a Christian organization that works to provide Christ-centered medical care to Haiti and other countries in need, through clinics and community health education.

A typical medical mission team consists of 6-12 individuals: a team leader, medical director, physicians, healthcare providers and aides (non-medical personnel). Frequently local providers will help as well. On average a team will spend 8-10 days on the field.

While serving in the country, physicals will be conducted for children and staff members in the area in which we are serving. Duties may include examinations, administering or applying medications to patients, working in the pharmacy, preventative healthcare and/or community health education.

One of the most exciting aspects of mission travel is the unexpected God moments as He takes us through His agenda for each team and individual. If we are vague when asked about what we are going to do while in country, it’s because plans often change based on opportunities given us. That’s one reason we don’t like to schedule every day with a multitude of “to-do’s”. Some of our most amazing experiences have occurred on “down” days.

Trips are financed by the individual team members through personal funding and/or fundraising. Four or five team meetings will take place prior to the trip in order for members to become acquainted with each other, understand the goals of that particular team, become acquainted with cultural differences, ask questions and grow spiritually.

Communities we serve

SAINT MARC

St. Marc is a major city in the Artibonite Valley with a working port. Bread of Life School-St Marc and Bread of Life Children’s Home are located here. We currently support weekly visits to the Children’s Home by Dr Frantzy Dieudonne, a pediatrician that we supported through the completion of his residency. In 2016 we came alongside One Gift One Child to provide care to at risk children as well as community health education to the local community. This is an exciting new opportunity to make a difference in the most underserved community in St Marc.

PONT SONDE

Pont Sonde is the site northernmost that we serve.  It is about 10 miles from St. Marc on the main road, Rt. Natl. 1, and is a center of commerce.  There are various businesses, gas stations, stores and a transportation hub where small vehicles called “tap-taps” and buses can be found for trips north to Gonaives and south to Port au Prince.  There is a modestly sized clinic there, but many people cannot afford to get there.  Bread of Life School in Pond Sonde is a sheet metal structure in the hills of the town.  Sponsorship programs keep the students well fed but basic medical needs are still difficult for families to meet.

TIMONET

Timonet has undergone great change. Since the earthquake of 2010, multitudes of refugees have made Timonet and the surrounding area their home. Timonet is on the fringe of the Artibonite Valley and allows for some agriculture.  There are many serious challenges due to the large influx of refugees there, but there definitely is a sense of promise in the community. Recovery and infrastructure improvements have allowed the refugee population to make Timonet their permanent home.  In the fall of 2012, New Beginnings School (now called Bread of Life School - Timonet) was built.  Because the building is a larger, better structure it will allow up to 500 students to attend.  With an increase of nearly ten times the old school attendance comes an increase in support, particularly medical support.
